Jazz Drummer World
CD Recommendation February 2010

Max Tiller and His Five Senses - Spot The SpitMax Tiller & His Five Senses called this project the alto saxophonist Max Tiller. The result is this CD in the summer and autumn of 2008. Max Tiller himself describes his music as an instrumental jazz-funk, inspired by musicians like Maceo Parker, Herbie Hancock or one. And indeed, this influence is here on this CD very quickly once heard. Mostly the songs were composed by Max Tiller and two compositions were written by two musicians. The album holds a lot of exciting ready and is influenced by jazz, funk, rock and pop elements sometimes. All wrapped nicely in a pot, it is let out, creating a very special kind of fireworks Groovy and energetic songs await the listener.

That this comes about, the musicians Jütte Bastian on drums, Alex Klier on bass, Jan Eschke on keyboards, Jan Zehrfeld provide on guitar and Uli Wangenheim on tenor saxophones, bass flute and Klarinete, as well as Max Tiller on alto saxophone. As a special guest is the percussionist in January with Kahlert is.

What this album offers very concrete terms? Ten songs that groove which is extremely strong. The very first song "Night Shift" provides a nice introduction to this album. Another striking feature is the beautiful interplay of the band. There sits every break and still has all authentic. In "celebration work" to get also enjoy a drum solo by drummer Bastian Juette. Extremely impressive, what he delivers here behind the drums Sun But to benefit from ballads to get here. "Unseen" is supported by the groove, what lies down the saxophone. And just convinced the drummer Bastian Jütte with his drumming on the line. The album's title track "Sopt The Spit", offers the most pop elements of the album. A 4-on-the-floor groove drives the song forward. With "Menage A Trois" is one of Earth, Wind and Fire recalls. The songs seem very nice on the listener and are well produced. "Who Cares" impresses with its quiet running Groove. And somehow, this album also recalls times a Dave Weckl Band. However, there is no copy, but really independent. "Quick Stop Step" is inspired by Maceo Parker's compositions Quickstep. And here comes in the genus of various solos of the musicians. In up-tempo, it goes with the song "Winter Sprinter" on. The final line makes the quiet song "Those Three". Where it is not a ballad in the traditional sense. Again more poppy and the special character of saxophones on this album.

A really good album, with compelling musicians. Such a beautiful productions and lots of heart and soul here forever indoors. The passion of the musicians feel it. Released the album when Foxtones label. Samples can be found on the iTunes Store. Available on the album is including amazon.de.
